Choice Camps Recommendation of 360 Student Travel: Africa Adult Community Service

Throughout the past 27 years, 360˚ Student Travel, a division of Westcoast Connection, has become one of the premiere teen travel providers in the world. With teen-focused itineraries that provide the perfect mix of fun, adventure, learning, and relaxation, 360˚ Student Travel programs are great for teens with a variety of interests and ambitions. 360˚ Student Travel trips are founded on the philosophy of respecting the individual while also creating a bonded group – a principle the company calls “each and every.”

Regardless of travel style, all 360˚ programs are created with the understanding that no matter what you want to accomplish during the summer, the challenges and experiences should be enjoyable as well as rewarding. By moving outside of their comfort zone, 360˚ tour members experience different cultures and new adventures that encourage self development, group bonding, and an unparalleled sense of discovery.

Incredible wildlife, varied landscapes, warm people, authentic African adventures, all in peaceful democratic countries complete our recipe for an unforgettable journey. Botswana, a country rich in diamonds but also in wildlife invites us to Chobe National Park to see the Big 5 except for rhinos which are more common in Zambia, where we will see them when we do safari by canoe. The Makgadikgadi & Nxai Pans, the largest salt pans in the world and a scenic wonder is where we ride our ATVs and enjoy an overnight trip under the stars. In Zambia we join children at an orphanage and local school providing supplies, games and laughter. In Sun City and Lost City we are rewarded for our hard work with sun and fun. The program combines service, wildlife education, cultural immersion and adventure and will truly be the experience of a lifetime.
You will experience and enjoy a safe and structured program designed to help you truly immerse yourself in the local culture. You will work side-by-side with the local people, contributing directly to community-based projects. The children treasure the one-on-one attention, love and support our volunteers provide.

Staff Overview

360˚ Student Travel interviews each staff candidate face-to-face during the hiring process. 360˚ staff members are hired for their expertise in specific areas – you’ll find that staff members who lead each trip have relevant, extensive backgrounds and experiences. Each 360˚ Student Travel tour is headed by a trip leader who is typically in their late 20’s or early 30’s. Trip leaders are supported by staff in their early 20’s.

Setting & Accommodations

In Africa, you will be staying in various types of lodging, ranging from a traditional Rondavel to a beautiful safari lodge. Room configuration varies from 2 to 3 people of the same gender in each room in single beds.

Accommodations Include:
• Hotels/Lodge (4 nights): All rooms contain beds, air conditioning, television, washroom with shower, and a restaurant and pool on the premises.
• Rondavels (1 night) are round buildings with a grass roof. Rooms contain everything you would find in a hotel: beds, linen, and en suite bathrooms.
• Safari Lodges (6 nights) are classified as a hotel situated in a game-rich area.
• Safari Tents/Camping (6 nights): Walk in tents which stand up like a normal room and have beds, linens, table, chairs, a balcony, and common showers and washrooms.

Safety Standards

All 360˚ Student Travel staff members take part in an extensive assortment of orientation workshops that train them in the program philosophy and procedures. Every 360˚ staff member is certified in first aid and CPR. All programs involving water activities include a certified life guard on staff at all times.

Because most 360˚ programs have been running for many years, every staff member knows key physicians and medical facilities along their route in case of illness or emergency. Each trip also has a medical representative in charge of distributing prescription medicine to campers who require it.

As a final safety precaution, 360˚ employs several program supervisors who personally check-in throughout each trip and meet with the campers and staff. Updates are relayed to 360˚’s offices that are open seven days a week to keep parents and company representatives informed of any situations that may arise.
