Choice Camps Recommendation of Camp All-Star
Camp All-Star is a co-ed sleep-away sports camp located at Kents Hill School in the scenic Belgrade Lakes region of Maine. Overlooking spectacular lake and mountain vistas, campers enjoy a modern preparatory school campus with top-notch facilities and resources. The Kents Hill campus boasts a brand new $8 million fitness center, a 200,000 square foot turf field, and new performing arts center. In addition to the amazing campus, Camp All-Star is best known for offering one of the most premiere sports camp experiences in New England. Campers are taught by experienced staff members who coach and play at NCAA and high school teams throughout the country. With top-notch facilities at their disposal, All-Star campers learn the best techniques on the finest fields, rinks, tracks, and fields. For campers looking to improve their sports skills while enjoying other traditional summer camp activities, Camp All-Star offers an all around stand-out program.
Program Description
Before the summer, campers, with the help of their parents, customize their daily schedules on a Camp All-Star activities selection form. Campers can participate in a skill-appropriate “major” sport up to two periods per day. Majors include ice hockey, baseball, lacrosse, basketball, tennis, flag football, and soccer. Majors are supplemented by three “skills” periods that are scheduled every other day. Campers are given the opportunity to re-customize their schedules on the first Wednesday of each two-week session.
Campers are grouped by age, gender, and skill level. Upon arrival, campers will receive a skills analysis and grouping session with Camp All-Star coaches and counselors. On-going interaction between each camper and his or her counselor will allow for adjustment to the schedules to make sure each child is making progress, having fun, and getting the most out of their structured program.
In addition to the core sports program, campers can try a variety of traditional summer camp activities like arts and crafts, woodworking, dance, and more. The camp also offers unique evening programming and off-site trips to regional attractions.
Staff Overview
The All-Star staff includes college head coaches, high school head coaches, college and high school assistant coaches, and college athletes. All staff members live in the dorms so they get to know campers on the field as well as off. Counselors must be a minimum of 19 years old and be in their second year of college to be a counselor at Camp All-Star.
Setting & Accommodations
Campers live in traditional preparatory school dorms on the campus of Kents Hill School. Campers stay in single-sex dorm rooms with one other camper. Each floor is grouped by age and has showers, bathrooms, and a common lounge.
Safety Standards
Camp All-Star utilizes the Kents Hill School infirmary which is staffed by two registered nurses and a physician. In case of emergency, campers will be transported immediately to the Maine Medical Center in nearby Augusta.
All waterfront staff members are American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certified. In addition, archery and ropes instructors hold certifications in their respective fields.
Camp All-Star is accredited by the American Camp Association and meets more than 300 safety standards set forth by the organization.
