Camp Canyon is a traditional summer camp located on the 1,300 acre campus of Bethany College in the scenic foothills of West Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains. With a top-notch college campus at their disposal, Camp Canyon offers an impressive variety of activities on impeccably manicured fields, courts, and pools. The camp boasts a regulation size NCAA basketball court, Olympic size swimming pool, turf football field, and 2,500 acre equestrian facility. With full access to the college’s indoor and outdoor facilities, the camp program is never affected by a rainy day.

In addition to unparalleled facilities, Camp Canyon runs a traditional camp program with a wide variety of sports, arts, outdoor, and specialty activities. The camp is known for particularly strong equestrian and golf programs taught by highly qualified instructors. The camp also makes use of the spectacular surrounding region through off-site adventure trips. Shorter session lengths offer convenience for families looking for a complete camp experience in one, three, or seven week segments. Program Description

Camp Canyon offers a mixture of free choice and scheduled programming determined by the camper’s age. Younger campers choose one activity concentration and participate in a rotation of scheduled sports and activities. Older campers can create their schedules to be as focused or varied as they would like. When participating in sports, campers are grouped by gender and capability within their age group in order to receive the best possible instruction.

In addition to a wide array of traditional camp activities, Camp Canyon has a prominent equestrian program which allows campers of all ability levels to experience riding in a safe, regulated environment. To insure safe riding, Canyon maintains the same horses year-round to foster familiarity with the animals.

Staff Overview

All Camp Canyon staff members receive a pre-camp orientation and continued support throughout the summer. The Camp Canyon staff is comprised of a combination of college-level coaches, skill-specific instructors, and physical education teachers. Most staff members are over the age of 21 and have prior camping or teaching experience.

Setting & Accommodations

Camp Canyon campers live in dormitory suites protected by swipe-card access. Each suite has air conditioning, two bathrooms, a common room, and refrigerator. Suites typically house 8 campers and at least 2 counselors.

Meals are served buffet-style in the campus dining hall. The menu features many kid favorite items like chicken patties, pizza, tacos, and more. All meals include a fresh salad and fruit bar.
