Choice Camps Recommendation of Camp Chen-A-Wanda
Talk to any Camp Chen-A-Wanda camper or staff member and they will tell you the same thing: Life is great at Camp-Chen-A-Wanda. With an unparalleled array of activities and top-notch facilities, Chen-A-Wanda offers a taste of everything for campers of all ages.
Camp Chen-A-Wanda features a nearly endless assortment of waterfront, field, and art activities. With campers swimming in an Olympic-sized pool, riding go carts on the camp’s private track, and performing in the fully-equipped theatre, there is always something new to try at Chen-A-Wanda.
Program Description
The Chen-A-Wanda program offers a mixture of structure and free-choice. While most of the camper’s activities are determined by the programming staff, campers get two free-choice electives each day. In addition to their electives, campers go to six pre-determined activity periods and an evening activity.
Evening activities include everything from camp-wide games of Capture the Flag to performances by professional dance troops and hypnotists. The camp is even known to bring in popular bands and performance groups for concerts - or to help kick-off special events like Color War.
Chen-A-Wanda recently added the CAW Teen Center, a building for teenagers to socialize over games of pool and foosball. This gives older campers the opportunity to break away from the traditional camp program and relax with their peers.
Staff Overview
Camp Chen-A-Wanda boasts a 70% staff retention rate, meaning campers will be greeted by many of the same faces year after year. Approximately 25% of the camp’s staff is comprised of former campers. The average staff age is 21.
Staff members at each activity provide quality, personalized instruction for campers at all skill levels. In many cases, staff members will work closely with campers to determine individual goals for the summer.
The camp is owned and operated by Jon and Elissa Grabow, two passionate, hands-on directors. The Grabows personally meet and interview each potential staff member when hiring.
Setting & Accommodations
Located on spring-fed Fiddle Lake, the Camp Chen-A-Wanda campus spans more than 180 acres in northeastern Pennsylvania. The camp is located less than 3 hours from both New York City and Philadelphia.

In Chen-A-Wanda’s air-conditioned dining hall, campers get nutritious and tasty options served family style.
Safety Standards
Camp Chen-A-Wanda has a fully-equipped Health Center staffed by four registered nurses and one physician at all times.
Staff members are first-aid and CPR trained – many even serve as EMTs. At the waterfront, all lifeguards are WSI trained and certified.
