Located in the Lake Sunapee region of Potter Place, New Hampshire, brother-sister camps Kenwood for Boys and Evergreen for Girls offer distinct traditional summer camp programs for each gender. Both camps offer a safe, caring environment where being a good friend carries the highest value. At Kenwood and Evergreen, teasing and bullying have no place, and the community commits itself to not just treating each other with respect, but also confronting disrespectful or hurtful behavior. As a testament to the fine program and great environment, more than 90% of Kenwood and Evergreen campers return each summer.
Program Description
On weekdays, Evergreen campers participate in all kinds of activities including land sports, the arts, and water sports. In addition, every group leaves camp on at least one overnight hiking trip and one overnight canoe trip, as well as many day trips throughout the summer.
On some nights and on every weekend, Evergreen campers meet up with the Kenwood boys for exciting, creative special events.
Staff Overview
At Evergreen, bunk counselors have no other job than to care for their campers and assist specialists during activities. They are often former campers and almost every bunk counselor has grown up in camp and understands the values of a camp community.
Activity specialists, who live with other specialists in staff housing, are hired for their teaching expertise—for their ability to find a way for every child to learn and grow.
Setting & Accommodations
Evergreen campers live in lodges with four separate bunks that house 7-8 campers and 2 general counselors. Bunks are linked by a central living room area that features a fireplace, couches, and a piano. Lodges typically house girls of the same age in all four bunks. The camp’s cozy, comfortable bunks create a family-like setting while lodges foster a communal spirit you won't find anywhere else.
Safety Standards
Camps Kenwood and Evergreen are accredited by the American Camp Association and meet more than 300 safety standards set forth by the organization.
