Choice Camps Recommendation of Camp Kinder Ring
Located on 100 lakeside acres in Hopewell Junction, New York, Camp Kinder Ring has been an institution in Jewish camping for more than half a century. The camp is owned and operated by the Workmen’s Circle/Arbeter Ring, an organization founded by Jewish immigrants in 1900 to promote Jewish community, culture, and society. Since 1927, Camp Kinder Ring has provided countless children and young adults with the opportunity for a memorable and enjoyable summer.
Camp Kinder Ring is known for its tight-knit community of campers, staff, and alumni. While many Kinder Ring campers have attended the program for many years – and in some cases, many generations – the camp offers unique programs for first-timers that welcome them into the community. New campers are paired with buddies from older divisions who help introduce them to friends and activities. Whether you’re a first time camper or a fourth-generation veteran Kinder Ring camper, anyone will tell you that Kinder Ring is a great choice for a traditional Jewish summer camp experience.
Program Description
Camp Kinder Ring provides each camper a balanced schedule of individual and team experiences with an emphasis on individual growth and spirited teamwork. The Kinder Ring staff carefully structures an age-appropriate schedule of weekly activities that campers attend with their counselor and cabin-mates. Campers are also offered a weekly elective through the Clubs and Clinics program as an opportunity to try new activities or master existing favorites.
On Friday nights, Kinder Ring has camp-wide celebrations of Jewish culture featuring dancing and singing. A special meal is prepared and all campers dress in white.
The Kinder Ring Trips and Travel Program gives campers the opportunity to visit off-site destinations like Lake George, Hershey Park, Washington DC, and more. Older campers also take trips to Disney World and Canada.
Staff Overview
The Camp Kinder Ring staff is comprised of three core groups: bunk counselors, specialty counselors, and divisional group leaders. Bunk counselors live with the campers and follow them to each activity. Those activities are led by specialty counselors who teach skills in their area of expertise. Divisional group leaders supervise a group of bunks and help plan age-appropriate activities for their campers.
