Choice Camps Recommendation of Camp Mataponi
Nestled in a cove on Sebago Lake in Naples, Maine, Camp Mataponi is an all-girls sleep-away camp that hosts 330 girls each summer. The program has a strong foundation in field sports, the arts, tennis, waterfront sports, and adventure/confidence course activities. In addition, the camp just added a 10 barn stable to enhance riding instruction. Camp Mataponi features a single seven week session and boasts an industry-leading 94% camper return rate.
Camp Mataponi has an exceptional staff led by hands-on directors who interact with campers from sunrise to “lights out.” You can expect to see directors Dan and Marcy Isdaner out cheering on the camp soccer team, climbing on the ropes course, and swimming with campers in the lake. This dedicated approach ensures every camper a safe, fun environment to perfect current skills and try new things.
Program Description
The Camp Mataponi program varies by camper age with approximately 50 campers in each age group. The daily schedules of younger campers include core activities and one or two electives. Older campers may select from two or three electives each day. Electives are selected for a three week period, giving campers the opportunity to perfect their skills and abilities.
Each age group is lead by a Division Leader who acts as an immediate supervisor and mentor to both campers and counselors. The minimum staff age is 18 and all Junior Counselors must have prior Mataponi camp experience.
Staff Overview
Camp Mataponi’s directors go across the world (literally) to assemble the best possible staff. Mataponi’s directors personally interview each candidate face-to-face regardless of where they’re located in the world – a practice that ensures the best possible experience for each camper.
A six day mandatory staff orientation is hosted for all staff members prior to the campers' arrival. All waterfront staff members are American Red Cross certified.
