Choice Camps Recommendation of Camp Micah

As one of New England's premier Jewish camps, Judaism is woven into the
fabric of life at Micah. The camp is known for spirited Friday night
services led by staff and Camp Micah's Rabbi, Emily Gopen Lipof. The
sessions feature a traditional Shabbat dinner complete with homemade
challah and chicken soup. Dinner is followed by camp-wide songs that
strengthen the community's spirit and connections. Activities continue
into a late Saturday morning breakfast and Shabbat morning activities.
Above all, Micah teaches campers to be good people by being the best
person possible and respecting others for who they are.

Program Description

The Camp Micah program allows campers to choose their activities within a structured format. The camp’s scheduling system is designed to require a well-rounded day filled with water activities, sports, the arts, and more. Before arriving at camp, campers go online and choose their preferred activities in each category. Micah’s scheduling team then assigns each camper a schedule based on their preferences. Campers are given a taste of everything and are allowed to modify their schedule as the summer progresses.

Camp Micah competes athletically with local camps in both tournaments and individual games. While every team plays to win, campers can join any team as long as they’re committed to practice and sportsmanship. The camp gives out awards for sportsmanship and spirit – not athletic ability.

Staff Overview

Camp Micah's entire waterfront staff is Life Gaurd certified through the
American Red Cross' water safety program. In addition, all trip and hike
coordinators are Wilderness First Responders, life Gaurds and many are
EMTs. Many counselors and other staff members hold advanced safety and
waterfront certifications as well.

Setting & Accommodations

Camp Micah is located in the town of Bridgton, Maine which is known for its recreational opportunities. The town is home to several summer camps and is dotted with charming cottages that are popular amongst city dwellers looking for a tranquil getaway. Micah has a 2,000 foot waterfront on a 735 acre lake. The camp is just over a half hour from Portland, Maine and roughly 2.5 hours from Boston.

Because the camp was built in 2001, Micah’s facilities are state-of-the-art. Campers typically live in bunks with 8-9 other campers and 2-3 counselors. Bunks are equipped with two hot-water showers, two sinks, and two toilets. The camp’s mattresses are known to be well above par.

Meals at Micah are served family style by bunk. The dining hall is always open so that campers can stop by for fruit or a quick snack between activities. Although pork and shellfish are not served, Micah is not a kosher camp.

Safety Standards

Camp Micah has a full health center staffed by two full time nurses and
two assistant nurses throughout the summer. Micah also has a doctor on
site. In case of emergency, the camp is less than 10 minutes from
Bridgton Hospital.
