Program Description
Each age group’s programming at Ridgecrest is designed with activities that suit their skills and abilities. Before camp starts, campers and their families receive a sign-up sheet asking them to select six “skill” focus activities. Skill opportunities include sports, creative arts, music, and wilderness activities. Using the family’s selections, the Ridgecrest staff creates a custom schedule for each camper. Once a camper arrives at camp, he is able to modify his skill selections if his interests have changed.
Camp Ridgecrest features a Christian-focused program founded on the teachings of Jesus Christ. All religious activities are designed with each specific age group in mind. The camp emphasizes many programs that help campers see Christ in different ways; these activities include camp fires, morning watches, evening devotions, and rich quiet times.
Staff Overview
Camp Ridgecrest is staffed by college-age counselors who serve as Christian role models. Staff members are hired for their expertise in a particular activity area and their desire to work with children. In addition, many counselors are former Ridgecrest campers who have attended camp for many years of their lives.
Setting & Accommodations
Campers live in rustic cabins with shower huts nearby. There are typically 6-10 campers and 2-3 staff members in each cabin.
Campers enjoy many kid favorite menu options at each meal. Meals are served family-style and the camp can accommodate vegetarian and other dietary situations that may arise.
Safety Standards
Camp Ridgecrest’s health care staff consists of two registered nurses who are responsible for the overall health of campers. The camp’s RNs are available 24 hours a day. An off-site physician is on call to handle any serious medical issues.
All Ridgecrest counselors are Red Cross certified in CPR and first aid. Waterfront staff members maintain lifeguard and waterfront module certification as well as CPR for the professional rescuer. The camp trip staff holds a minimum Wilderness First-Aid certification and some are trained Wilderness First Responders.
Camp Ridgecrest is accredited by the American Camp Association and meets more than 300 safety standards set forth by the organization.
