Choice Camps Recommendation of Camp Vega

Family owned and operated since 1975, Camp Vega is a traditional full-season summer camp for girls nestled along beautiful Echo Lake in Fayette, Maine. Set on 300 acres of pristine forest and more than a mile of majestic lakefront, Camp Vega is the perfect place for girls to learn about teamwork, leadership, mutual respect, good sportsmanship, cabin harmony, camp spirit, and environmental awareness – all while enjoying athletic, waterfront, arts, and individual activities.

When arriving at camp, campers are immediately welcomed into Vega's circle of friendship – a community that offers a safe and exciting summer in an organized, spirited, and loving environment. Vega’s exceptional staff supports campers in every endeavor, and instills in them the benefits of group living and meaningful camp traditions. There is ample opportunity for campers to share their thoughts and take risks in feats they never dreamed they could accomplish. For families looking for a premier camp experience in an exceptional setting with the finest facilities and staff, Camp Vega may be the perfect choice.

Program Description

Vega’s personalized Activity Selection Program gives families the opportunity to choose a schedule with a wide range of land and water sports, visual and performing arts, adventure activities, and wilderness excursions. Before arriving at Vega, campers in grades 2-5 and their parents choose most of their activities. These campers have both swimming and land sports as part of their daily schedule Monday through Saturday, and the rest of their program is chosen by each family. Midway through the summer campers can select different activities and try new things.

Campers in grades 6-9 are able to choose their entire program. This gives campers the option to specialize in one or two activity areas led by qualified and experienced instructors.

Staff Overview

Vega’s staff members are fine role models exemplifying integrity, kindness and compassion. The average staff age is 21 years old, and all staff members are at least 18 years old and have completed one year of college before working at camp.

Once at camp, all staff members are re-interviewed by the Directors and Group Leaders. The Vega staff is hired not only for their departmental achievements and experience working with children, but also for their nurturing characteristics. Vega’s Department Heads are extremely qualified in their fields of instruction, with most coaching their particular skill year round.

Setting & Accommodations

Camp Vega is located in the town of Fayette, Maine, approximately 70 miles north of Portland and 180 miles north of Boston. Set on Echo Lake, the camp’s setting and facilities are simply spectacular.

Twice daily, optional protein shakes and fresh fruit are made available between activity periods.
