Choice Camps Recommendation of Camp Weequahic

Situated in the Endless Mountains of northeast Pennsylvania, Camp Weequahic’s well-rounded, three-week program offers boys and girls the traditional summer camp experience and includes quality instruction in athletics, arts, waterfront activities and adventure opportunities. Campers at Weequahic enjoy outstanding facilities including a 12,000 square foot indoor recreational hall, a new gymnastics center and a full-size regulation size hockey arena. The camp’s knowledgeable and caring staff adds to the Weequahic experience which is centered on fun, family, spirit, adventure and tradition.

Program Description

Camp Weequahic’s program provides campers with a combination of structured group activities and free choice periods. Camp Weequahic’s three-week program is comprised of diverse athletic, art, waterfront and adventure activities that build self-esteem and allow campers to create lasting friendships. Each session, 150 boys and 150 girls can enjoy one or two day “Wee-excel” specialty camps offered throughout the summer and led by guest specialists and knowledgeable instructors. Offerings include the performing arts, tennis and outdoor adventures.

All age groups and skill levels have the opportunity to participate in tournaments and intercamps. Wayne County tournaments against other nearby camps include golf, gymnastics, soccer and track and field. Inter-camp games are also offered for most ages and sports. Trips outside of camp are also popular. Campers can take in a minor league baseball game, go bowling in town and explore other exciting destinations. Camp Weequahic’s daily program is enhanced by special events and evening activities. Each session includes the traditional color war experience and features a variety of group and social activities including campfires, talent shows, scavenger hunts and pool parties.

Staff Overview

Key supervisory staff ensures campers are safe and cared for and often return year after year. Over 70 support staff members are highly recommended teachers and upper level college students who are committed to children. All staff members attend an intensive orientation prior to the start of camp and receive continued support and training throughout the summer.

Setting & Accommodations

Modern duplex cabins are equipped with private showers to best accommodate campers. Cabins overlook the lake and house eight to 10 campers with two to three counselors on each side.

Meals are served buffet style in the camp’s air conditioned dining room. Meals are well-balanced and child friendly. Salad and yogurt bars accompany meals and snacks are served during the day and at bedtime.

Safety Standards

Camp Weequahic’s modern health center with nursing staff and on-site doctors is available to all campers. Additionally, 24-hour guards ensure campers are safe while on camp grounds.

Camp Weequahic is accredited by the American Association of Camps (ACA) and meets more than 300 safety standards.
