Choice Camps Recommendation of Camp Winadu
Camp Winadu is an overnight sports camp for boys located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on Lake Onota, the "Jewel of the Berkshires." As one of the premier sports programs in America, Camp Winadu provides quality athletic instruction coupled with the fun, life lessons, and supervision of a traditional overnight boys’ summer camp. Campers with diverse athletic abilities learn new skills and develop a true sense of teamwork and camaraderie among all the members of the Winadu camp family. The emphasis is on having fun and doing your best, rather than on winning.
Winadu is more than a camp for kids who love sports. It is a camp that builds self-esteem and teaches life lessons. Every camper learns the true meaning of the camp’s credo – "Team Winadu" – that the most important thing a team player does is help and support his teammates. For boys who love to play sports and want all the fun of a true sleep-away camp experience, Camp Winadu is the right camp for you.
Program Description
The program at Winadu is both balanced and varied in a way that gives every child the opportunity to pursue his personal interests. In addition to required group activities, all campers sign up for "selectives," Winadu’s daily elective program. Two-week long clinics in all athletic and non-athletic activities are also incorporated into the schedule. Trips, Special Events and Inter-Camp games spark the weekly program.
The Winadu program varies by age. The camp’s youngest campers have a structured program, which incorporates instruction in sports, swimming and tennis, as well as selectives and daily recreational swim.
The program for campers over the age of 12 is entirely elective. These divisions are scheduled on an individualized basis for clinics, tournaments and leagues. Selectives are offered several times a week. The flexibility of the program provides an opportunity for boys to specialize in a particular activity. Counselors encourage older campers to vary their choices to take full advantage of all that Winadu has to offer.
Staff Overview
Winadu staff members are selected for their dedication to children and for their ability to motivate and teach new skills to campers. Winadu employs numerous teachers and coaches with extensive experience working with children. Head counselors and head coaches are professionals working in their field of expertise during the school year.
Winadu staff members come from all over the US and Canada, as well as from overseas countries, including Australia, New Zealand and England. Each staff member has completed at least one year of college and most are at least 21 years of age. Many of these staff members are studying an education or recreation related program in school.
