Located on 100 acres of towering pines in Bridgton, Maine, JCC Maccabi Camp Kingswood offers a broad athletic, creative arts, and cultural program that provides 300 campers many opportunities to try new things or deepen their skills. Camp Kingswood’s highly trained and experienced staff provides individualized instruction as well as one-on-one attention to each camper. The camp is known for a tight-knit community feel that welcomes both new and familiar faces.

Camp Kingswood is the overnight camp of the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston and partners with Jewish communities in Portland, Maine, Newton, MA, and Stoughton, MA. Campers come from as far away as California and Israel to experience the faith, fun, and friendship found at JCC Maccabi Camp Kingswood. With an exciting program, great activities, and exceptional staff, Kingswood is a great choice for both first-time Jewish campers and summer camp veterans.

Program Description

JCC Maccabi Camp Kingswood features a free-choice program where campers choose the activities they would like to focus on that day. With five free-choice periods each day, campers can try a little bit of everything or focus on one area of instruction. The only required activity is instructional swim for younger campers.

Each program area at JCC Maccabi Camp Kingswood is led by a well-trained specialist, many of whom work outside of camp as artists, sports coaches, and actors. The camp even invites professionals to teach special sessions through the visiting artist-in-residence program. On the sports field, campers can choose to participate in inter-camp games and competitions held throughout the summer.

Because JCC Maccabi Camp Kingswood is a Jewish program, Friday afternoons begin the Shabbat celebration which continues into the evening. Campers get together to sing songs and celebrate their culture. On Saturday mornings, campers get to sleep late and enjoy a relaxed schedule of community activities throughout the day. Saturdays end with a Havdalah and all-camp social.

Staff Overview

JCC Maccabi Camp Kingswood attracts caring, highly-skilled counselors and program staff. The average staff age is 21 and all counselors have prior camping experience and a desire to work with children.

The camp boasts an excellent return rate amongst staff. Many staff members are homegrown through the camp’s LEAD counselor-in-training program. Some instructors even travel from Israel to work at Kingswood each summer.

Setting & Accommodations

JCC Maccabi Camp Kingswood is located on 100 acres of towering pines bordering Woods Pond, a spring-fed lake in the lakes region of southern Maine. The camp provides stunning views of the countryside that you would come to expect in northern New England. The camp is three hours from Boston and less than one hour from Portland, Maine.

Campers live in traditional camp cabins with 8-12 other campers and 2-3 counselors. All cabins have toilets and sinks – shower huts are centrally located throughout camp.

The kosher kitchen at Camp Kingswood provides many great options for campers at every meal. In addition to the main course, the camp offers a fruit and yogurt bar with breakfast and a salad and pasta bar with dinner. Fresh fruit is available for snacking all day.

Safety Standards

The Camp Kingswood health center is staffed 24 hours a day with registered nurses. If a camper needs additional treatment, the Bridgton Hospital and a network of on-call physicians is located less than a mile from camp.

The swim area at Camp Kingswood is staffed by American Red Cross WSI certified lifeguards. All waterfront staff members participate in a rigorous water safety training program before camp starts. The archery, ropes course, and climbing tower staff are also trained and certified.

JCC Maccabi Camp Kingswood is accredited by the American Camp Association and meets more than 300 safety standards set forth by the organization.
