Program Description
The Julian Krinsky Model UN program introduces students to the exciting field of international relations by equipping them with crucial skills needed for future leadership. The program blends world history, current events, and leadership training to help students understand international relations on an advanced level. The four-week session of workshops and simulations features guest speakers that include international dignitaries, members of foreign embassies, and authorities in the IR field.
Students participate in model UN simulations where they debate the most urgent issues facing the world today. The Julian Krinsky program accommodates both new and experienced students by developing tutorials that help participants feel comfortable in situations they may encounter as a leader. Students also enjoy field trips to the United Nations in New York City and Embassy Row in Washington D.C.
Staff Overview
The Julian Krinsky Model UN at UPenn is staffed by undergraduate and graduate students who are experienced members of Model UN teams.
Setting & Accommodations
Students live in University of Pennsylvania dorms with other students participating in the program. UPenn is located in an area of Philadelphia across the Schuylkill River and just west of Center City. The campus is about a two hour drive from New York City and Washington D.C.
Students primarily eat at the UPenn campus dining hall. The dining hall features a main entree accompanied by salad, fruit, vegetables, and sandwiches. Students also visit local eateries like Starbucks, Einstein Bagels, Marathon Grill, and more.
Safety Standards
Julian Krinsky camps have a nurse, doctor, pediatric nurse practitioner, and trainer on-call at all times. In the event of a more serious illness or injury, a hospital is located less than 10 minutes from camp.
