Choice Camps Recommendation of Julian Krinsky Management & Technology Summer Institute
The Management & Technology Summer Institute (M&TSI) is a for-credit summer program for rising high school seniors and select high school juniors who want to learn about the integration of technological concepts and management principles. Sponsored by The Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, M&TSI features classes taught by leading faculty and successful entrepreneurs, field trips to companies and R&D facilities, intensive team projects, as well as other activities designed to give students the opportunity to learn about the principles and practice of technological innovation. The program is a great choice for budding entrepreneurs looking to develop their ideas and network with other like-minded students.
Program Description
The Management & Technology Summer Institute introduces students to the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for successfully linking technology and management concepts in the 21st century. Program participants visit relevant business enterprises in order to explore the qualities essential to a managing a technology-oriented firm.
Working in small groups, students develop a "go to market" plan for a high technology product idea and present the concept to a group of potential customers and distributors at a new product fair. The program gives students a true Ivy League experience that involves thinking, risk taking, and solving problems in a corporate setting.
Staff Overview
Students get to work with leading entrepreneurs from companies around the world.
Setting & Accommodations
Students live in University of Pennsylvania dorms with other students participating in the program. UPenn is located in an area of Philadelphia across the Schuylkill River and just west of Center City. The campus is about a two hour drive from New York City and Washington D.C.
Students primarily eat at the UPenn campus dining hall. The dining hall features a main entree accompanied by salad, fruit, vegetables, and sandwiches. Students also visit local eateries like Starbucks, Einstein Bagels, Marathon Grill, and more.
Safety Standards
A nurse, doctor, pediatric nurse practitioner, and trainer are on-call at all times. In the event of a more serious illness or injury, a hospital is located less than 10 minutes from camp.
