Choice Camps Recommendation of Julian Krinsky Yesh Shabbat
The Julian Krinsky Yesh Shabbat Summer Camp is a modern orthodox program for young Jewish people — a comfortable environment where they can live, learn and worship with their peers. It is an opportunity for them to grow in knowledge and understanding of traditional Judaism while enjoying world-class sports instruction or challenging academic classes.
Yesh Shabbat is not just a sports or academic enrichment program, nor is it simply a Shabbat-observant program. The program is all that and more, brilliantly combined into a truly unique experience: the Julian Krinsky Yesh Shabbat Summer Program.
Program Description
The Julian Krinsky Yesh Shabbat Summer Camp features an all-encompassing Jewish lifestyle program. Students participate in torah study, Shabbat services, and tefilah, which Is attended three times a day by all campers and staff. The camp also offers a mitzvah program where students participate in projects to help strengthen their connection with both local and Israeli Jewish communities.
In addition to core Jewish components, campers choose one of three learning programs: sports, enrichment (high school students only), or xploration (middle school students only).
Students who choose the sports program attend the Julian Krinsky School of Tennis, School of Golf, or School of Basketball for five hours each day, Monday through Friday.
High school students who choose the enrichment program have a lot of choice and flexibility, allowing them to focus heavily on one activity or try a variety of different things. Mornings are devoted to enrichment classes, while campers attend various workshops in the afternoon. Core areas include business, community service, fashion design, SAT prep, and music.
Middle school students who choose xploration attend different workshops on different days of the week. The program provides plenty of sports and enrichment opportunities.
Staff Overview
Yesh Shabbat features two staffs: one for instruction and the other for residential life. The residential counseling staff consists mostly of college juniors, seniors and recent graduates. The program’s instructors and coaches are career educators who have devoted their professional lives to the educational, emotional, and social development of children in schools and camps.
Yesh Shabbat’s counselors are committed and passionate Jews and citizens of the world. They attend schools like Yeshiva University, Bar Ilan, Rutgers, the University of Maryland, and New York University and play central roles in campus Jewish life. In addition, many counselors have studied in yeshivot and seminaries in Israel. All male staff members are well versed in Torah reading and would be happy to assist students who may want bar mitzvah lessons.
Setting & Accommodations
Students at the Julian Krinsky Yesh Shabbat Summer Camp live in dorms at Haverford College. The college is located in Haverford, Pennsylvania about 2 hours from New York City and Washington D.C.
Yesh Shabbat’s dining facilities are Glatt Kosher under orthodox rabbinical supervision and a large variety of meals are offered daily. When meat is served, a vegetarian alternative is always available. A catered Shabbat dinner is a highlight of the week.
Safety Standards
Julian Krinsky camps have a nurse, doctor, pediatric nurse practitioner, and trainer on-call at all times. In the event of a more serious illness or injury, a hospital is located less than 10 minutes from camp.
