Choice Camps Recommendation of Kingsley Pines Camp
Nestled on 100 acres in Raymond, Maine, Kingsley Pines offers a complete summer camp experience in 2-3 weeks. With a “campers first” mentality, the Kingsley Pines staff provides a positive environment where children can feel safe trying new things. The vast majority of campers are only enrolled for one session, providing a beginning, middle, and end to the program.
Kingsley Pines is a great camp for both first-time and veteran campers. The relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere creates an environment where all campers feel comfortable participating in any activity that interests them. Even with an action-packed daily schedule, campers have free time to hang out and create friendships that will last forever.
Program Description
On the first night of camp, campers learn about all of the activities that Kingsley Pines has to offer. With the help of their counselor, campers select four activities that they will attend each day for one week. Campers get one elective period each day and change their four standard activities each week. Swimming is the only required activity until campers complete the American Red Cross level four course. Most evening programming includes the entire camp with activities like dances, campfires, races, and more.
With a premiere location in northern New England, campers have access to some of the best lakes, streams, and trails that the region has to offer. Kingsley Pines offers several off-site adventure trips that last between one and three days.
Staff Overview
The Kingsley Pines staff comes from all over the United States and several overseas countries. Staff ages range from 18-26 with an average age of 21. The staff undergoes an intensive pre-camp training period where each counselor must set goals for the summer. Kingsley Pines promotes the concept of counselors having such a profound impact on campers that they will remember their name in twenty years time.
Director Alan Kissack has been involved in Maine camping for more than 32 years as a camper, junior counselor, counselor, program director, assistant director, and now director. Owners Pat and Joyce Coughlan live in the middle of camp and enjoy constant interaction with the campers and staff.
