Program Description
Campers are immersed in nature and go on adventures such as climbing mountains, following trails into the heart of the wilderness and learning outdoor survival skills. Overnight camping trips lay the groundwork for first aid training, animal tracking, orienteering and geology. Campers are taught leadership skills through healthy competition.
The daily schedule consists of group activities and individually chosen electives. As a group, campers participate in two periods a day as a cabin and are allowed to choose three other electives for the day. Activities range from guitar lessons to magic to lacrosse and incorporate every camper’s interests.
Staff Overview
All staff members are personally hired after extensive background checks and referencing. Counselors oversee campers in their bunks and unit leaders add an additional level of supervision. The staff is hired based on the ability to connect with campers as well as excellence in teaching and coaching.
Setting & Accommodations
Long Lake Camp Adventure is located in upstate New York, right next door to its sister camp Long Lake Camp for the Arts. The peaks of the Adirondacks provide the backdrop for a haven of outdoor recreation within the nation's largest trail system. Campers stay in cabins headed by a counselor.
Campers eat four times a day including a morning snack in the Dining Hall.
Safety Standards
Three registered nurses on call 24 hours a day and a camp doctor is located 5 minutes away. Unite leaders ensure parents are kept well informed about camper safety and happiness at camp.
