Choice Camps Recommendation of Muskoka Woods
Located in the beautiful woods of Rosseau, Ontario, Muskoka Woods offers an amazing summer retreat for kids and teens. Voted #1 by Toronto City Parents Magazine, Muskoka Woods encourages campers to grow mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. With literally hundreds of activities to choose from, campers will have no trouble filling their schedules. Each activity is meant to foster community spirit and Christian values, as well as boost self-confidence and gain new learning experiences. Make lifelong friends and memories at Muskoka Woods trying things you’ve never experienced before!
Program Description
Muskoka Woods campers sign up for their own schedules and pick six electives for the day. If campers are interested in more specialized programs, they can sign up for a more in depth program that highlights their interests as well as integrating other camp activities as well. Campers spend the day on their individually selected activities and regroup throughout the day for lunch, dinner and evening group programs.
Muskoka Woods is offering several new programs this year, including Body Motion, which emphasizes the positives of healthy living, Cooking Fanatic, which introduces campers to the science of cooking and honing techniques, and Eco-Kids for the nature detective in every camper. By being able to choose their activities, campers are encouraged to try new things and make new friends by branching out of their comfort zones.
Camp is divided into four age groups: Wild (7-9), J1 (10-11), J2 (12-13), and Senior High (15-17). For older teens that want a different type of experience, Muskoka Woods offers the CEO program, which is a four week stay 15 to 17-year-olds can apply for. From community service in New Orleans to personal development, the CEO program is a lifechanging experience. Teens participate to make the transition from camper to counselor while focusing on leadership and youth development.
Staff Overview
Staff members are selected for their trustworthy character, ability with children and strong Christian faith. Counselors are dedicated to providing each camper with a summer they’ll never forget while maintaining a fun and safe environment. Each staff member undergoes a rigorous selection and training process that includes behavioral interviews, reference checks, first-aid training, skills & experience assessment, police and criminal record check, and a seven day on-site training course.
Setting & Accommodations
All campers stay in cabins. The 7-9 year olds have 2 counselors and up to 8 guests in a cabin where most include washroom facilities. For 10-11 year olds, there are 2 counselors and a maximum of 10 guests per cabin. Their washroom facilities, including hot water and showers, are a short distance from their cabin. The 12-17 year old guests have one counselor supervising a cabin of up to 11 guests and have washroom facilities in their cabins.
