By living at a university, students always have comfortable accommodations and a supportive community to come home to.
Rein Community Service programs go hand-in-hand with fun and adventure. In addition to core service projects, Rein travelers experience recreational options, cultural and local activities, and weekend travel opportunities. For students looking for a combination of service, sightseeing, and adventure, Rein Community Service projects are a unique and rewarding experience.
Trip Description
Rein Community Service: Project California combines community service activities each morning with a wide variety of electives each afternoon. Throughout the program, participants will accumulate 80 hours worth of community service.
Each morning, participants are chaperoned by deluxe motor coach to their community service project. Students have the opportunity to volunteer with children, volunteer with animals, protect the environment, or help the disadvantaged.
During the afternoon, campers select an afternoon elective that they attend three times per week. Electives are instruction-based and include tennis, golf, cooking, photography, surfing, yoga, guitar, outdoor adventure, and SAT prep. When electives aren’t running, students visit Santa Barbara hot spots to get a true taste of the California lifestyle.
Each weekend students visit California hot spots. Students get to experience fun in the sun at Palm Springs and Los Angeles.
Staff Overview
The Rein Community Service staff is comprised primarily of teachers and graduate students who are committed to Project California’s ideals of volunteering and giving back to the community.
All staff members attend Rein’s professional training workshops where the emphasis is placed on the safety and well-being of teenage volunteers. Program Leaders are trained in basic first aid and CPR.
Setting & Accommodations
Participants are housed in traditional college dorms at UC Santa Barbara. The dormitory rooms are doubles with a shared private bathroom connecting two rooms. Other amenities include an Olympic-size swimming pool with lifeguard, sand volleyball court, computer lab, floor lounges with sofas and cable television, linen service, and laundry room.
Program participants enjoy meals served in the university’s dining hall. The entire trip group eats breakfast, lunch, and dinner together. Meals are served cafeteria-style with plenty of made-to-order options.
Safety Standards
To ensure a safe experience for project participants, all transportation during Rein Community Service programs is via professionally driven buses, and never in staff driven vans.
While projects are in session, the Rein Summer Communications Center is staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week by a team dedicated to monitoring program progress. The Communications Center can field questions from parents, or dispatch help if anything unexpected happens in the field. All Rein leaders carry cell phones at all times.
As a final precaution, company directors visit projects to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
