Trip Description
Australia is a land of rainforests and deserts, of busy modern cities teeming with energy and vast expanses of untouched nature where ancient cultures and traditions still thrive. Experience the wonder of this spectacular place as only TFT can show it to you!
Excitement awaits on land and at sea, while spending the days hiking and playing sports, snorkeling, swimming, and basking in the sun. Learn to throw a boomerang in the Outback, visit a working cattle ranch, and eat fantastic food in some of the world’s most amazing cities. Look back into Australia’s ancient past and get to know the culture of the Aborigines, and come into contact with one of the Seven Wonders of the World while scuba diving through the Great Barrier Reef. To round out the stay in Australia, take in a show at the Sydney Opera House – a landmark of modern architecture – or check out a movie on the world’s largest IMAX screen.
New Zealand is no less spectacular, with its imposing peaks and tropical beaches. Here, ride in the world’s fastest jet boat and cruise through the breathtaking fjords of Milford Sound. Find out just what distinguishes New Zealand from its neighbors down under by learning about the country’s history and culture, and attend an authentic Maori Haka.
Throughout the trip, safety and choice are top priorities. You will be led by expert staff who have a deep familiarity with these destinations, so that you can safely and securely assemble a trip that is your very own!
Staff Overview
All staff members undergo extensive interviewing, training, and ongoing evaluation. All counselors are certified in first-aid and CPR. Very few new staff are hired each year due to high retention rate. Trip leaders do not lead a trip without prior experience as a TFT counselor. With few exceptions, students are fully supervised on all of our journeys. Most staff members have lived in the countries they are leading each trip in and are able to offer deeper insights into the culture and lifestyle.
Setting & Accommodations
Travelers will stay in authentic hotels close to the center of each city to maximize the cultural experience. Travel for Teens tries to avoid staying in chain hotels to encourage immersion into each specific region.
Lodging in the Outback is rustic and cozy. Travelers will be in cabins--each cabin has heat, AC, electricity and lots of authentic charm.
In Cairns you will be staying in a lively and fun hotel just moments away from the boat that will take you to the Great Barrier Reef. When you arrive in Sydney, you'll stay right in the center of the city. The hotel is sleek, modern, and very cosmopolitan. It's within a moment's walk to shopping, the Harbour, parks, and the world's largest IMAX screen!
Next you'll fly to New Zealand and stay in a chalet at the base of the Remarkable Mountains. From your chalet you are at the perfect place to depart for your adventures. Many shops are nearby, plus museums, and restaurants. Your chalet will be equipped with a kitchen and a lounge in addition to bedrooms.
Safety Standards
Travelers are under staff supervision at all times except select hour to hour and a half shopping trips. While on the mountains professionals supervise and teach correct technique to avoid injury. Travel for teens analyzes every aspect and detail of each trip and goes over contingency plans and emergency numbers for each country. Each site and hotel is visited and approved before bringing a group and first aid kits are always on hand. English-speaking doctors are on hand most of the time, but when they are not the bilingual staff act as interpreters.
