Trip Description
Backpacking I
On the first trip, backpack through Europe and ride the rails with the pros at Travel for Teens. Visit Amsterdam, Bavaria, the Swiss Alps, and Venice on this authentic trip to some of the most fascinating places in Europe.
Begin in Amsterdam, the elegant city of canals and cobblestone streets and a favorite stop for backpackers and young travelers in the know. Pull out your railpass and jump the next train to Munich, the cultural capital of Bavaria and home to the Oktoberfest festival. This ancient city, meticulously rebuilt after WWII, is a prime stop on the euro-backpacking circuit. The next train brings us to the idyllic Swiss Alps, a landscape of dramatic mountains, valleys and alpine pastures with views over the Rhone valley. Romantic and mysterious Venice is last, the perfect setting to wrap up this Euro adventure.
Backpacking II
This adventure starts in Florence, the thriving Italian capital of culture and birthplace of the Renaissance. Roam the ancient streets sipping espresso and talking Michelangelo with the best of them.
Say ciao, Firenze, and jump the train for the azure Mediterranean waters of the Cinque Terre, a collection of five fishing villages along the Italian Riviera. Stay in the heart of the Cinque Terre, soaking in the relaxed atmosphere of our village and hiking the world-famous trail that follows the coast.
Take out your railpass again, it’s time to explore the natural beauty and elegance of Switzerland and spend time exploring traditional mountain hamlets and the great outdoors.
Paris, the City of Light, is the final destination. Nobody knows Paris like we do – come with us and get to know Parisian culture from the inside out as we hit the main sights of the city as well as hidden treasures that tourists just don’t know about.
Staff Overview
All staff members undergo extensive interviewing, training, and ongoing evaluation. All counselors are certified in first-aid and CPR. Very few new staff are hired each year due to high retention rate. Trip leaders do not lead a trip without prior experience as a TFT counselor. With few exceptions, students are fully supervised on all of our journeys. Most staff members have lived in the countries they are leading each trip in and are able to offer deeper insights into the culture and lifestyle.
Setting & Accommodations
Travelers will stay in authentic hotels close to the center of each city to maximize the cultural experience. Travel for Teens tries to avoid staying in chain hotels to encourage immersion into each specific region.
Safety Standards
Travelers are under staff supervision at all times except select hour to hour and a half shopping trips. While on the mountains professionals supervise and teach correct technique to avoid injury. Travel for teens analyzes every aspect and detail of each trip and goes over contingency plans and emergency numbers for each country. Each site and hotel is visited and approved before bringing a group and first aid kits are always on hand. English-speaking doctors are on hand most of the time, but when they are not the bilingual staff act as interpreters.
