Trip Description
Italy is scooters zooming down narrow cobblestone streets, the smell of espresso in the morning, the crumbling vestiges of the world’s greatest empire, the incredible marvels of the Renaissance, fresh local food, and a warm sense of hospitality. Italy’s many layers of history present us with a fascinating modern-day country where ancient buildings house contemporary cutting-edge fashion boutiques, and where Ferraris dart along roads built by the Ancient Romans. History, art, fashion, shopping, and cuisine are all on the menu for this unique Italian adventure.
Spend time in a number of different regions in Italy, digging beneath the layers of the past to understand the cultures and histories of each of these timeless places. Compare the cuisines, connect the stories, meet Italians, and absorb the individual tastes of each place.
Begin your journey in Venice, the enigmatic floating city that will enchant you with its maze-like alleyways and magnificent crumbling palaces on the Grand Canal. Next, after a stop at Pisa, see to the dramatic mountains and turquoise Mediterranean waters of the Cinque Terre, on the northeast coast of Italy and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of an authentic Italian fishing village. The rolling hills of Tuscany await, where you will relax at a country estate and make day trips to Florence and Siena.
Rome is the final destination, where you can trace the history of Italy from its earliest origins through the glories of empire, the rise of Catholicism, and the renewal of the Renaissance.
Accommodations, activities and meals in Italy all reflect the genuine motivation to provide an authentic, real cultural experience to all of our participants. As on all trips, TFT incorporates choice and flexibility so that each participant can zero in on those aspects he or she finds most interesting, meaningful, and fun.
Staff Overview
All staff members undergo extensive interviewing, training, and ongoing evaluation. All counselors are certified in first-aid and CPR. Very few new staff are hired each year due to high retention rate. Trip leaders do not lead a trip without prior experience as a TFT counselor. With few exceptions, students are fully supervised on all of our journeys. Most staff members have lived in the countries they are leading each trip in and are able to offer deeper insights into the culture and lifestyle.
Setting & Accommodations
Travelers will stay in authentic hotels close to the center of each city to maximize the cultural experience. Travel for Teens tries to avoid staying in chain hotels to encourage immersion into each specific region.
Safety Standards
Travelers are under staff supervision at all times except select hour to hour and a half shopping trips. While on the mountains professionals supervise and teach correct technique to avoid injury. Travel for teens analyzes every aspect and detail of each trip and goes over contingency plans and emergency numbers for each country. Each site and hotel is visited and approved before bringing a group and first aid kits are always on hand. English-speaking doctors are on hand most of the time, but when they are not the bilingual staff act as interpreters.
