Trip Description

In Thailand, you'll experience the world’s bluest waters, world-class diving, saffron-cloaked Buddhist monks, temples adorned with mother-of-pearl inlay and golden buddhas, mouth-watering cuisine, elephant and tiger rescue projects, Thai cooking lessons, and the gentle smiles of the Thai people. This is truly a journey to be remembered.

In Chiang Mai, a hip university town in the northern hills of Thailand, you will participate in a worthwhile community service project alongside an indigenous hill tribe nearby. Kanchanaburi, site of the Bridge on the River Kwai, is full of WWII history, and you will also visit a nearby tiger rehabilitation project for a chance to get very close to these majestic animals. Next, jet down to the islands for a taste of tropical nirvana. Snorkel and dive in the crystal-clear waters, meet and speak with survivors of the 2004 tsunami, and learn about the high-tech safeguards that have been put in place since then. Bangkok is where we finish this incredible journey - a thriving city full of energy and life. Marvel at the Emerald Buddha and the Royal Palace, as well as the famed floating markets where you can fill your suitcase for the trip home.

Staff Overview

All staff members undergo extensive interviewing, training, and ongoing evaluation. All counselors are certified in first-aid and CPR. Very few new staff are hired each year due to high retention rate. Trip leaders do not lead a trip without prior experience as a TFT counselor. With few exceptions, students are fully supervised on all of our journeys. Most staff members have lived in the countries they are leading each trip in and are able to offer deeper insights into the culture and lifestyle.

Setting & Accommodations

First, in Chiang Mai, travelers wil stay at a boarding school in a suburb only 15 minutes from the city. It is the perfect location to get acclimatized to the time difference and weather. One night during the stay in Chiang Mai, you will overnight with a hill tribe during our two day service project. Next, on Koh Phi Phi, we stay in Bungalows. In Kanchanburi, we stay right on the river kwai. Finally in Bangkok, stay in a 4 star hotel in the center of the city.

Safety Standards

Travelers are under staff supervision at all times except select hour to hour and a half shopping trips. While on the mountains professionals supervise and teach correct technique to avoid injury. Travel for teens analyzes every aspect and detail of each trip and goes over contingency plans and emergency numbers for each country. Each site and hotel is visited and approved before bringing a group and first aid kits are always on hand. English-speaking doctors are on hand most of the time, but when they are not the bilingual staff act as interpreters.
